Our Philosophy of Tea We all have the capability by our choices to control our destiny and happiness. The power of our intentions can be positive or negative. The ability to make this choice allows us to manifest good energy through the power of our spirit. When we live a peaceful life, we can develop instead of destroy nature’s way. Positive energy depends on mental attitude. Mental attitude is controlled not only by the brain, but also by the body and spirit. Therefore it is essential to maintain a good balance between the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of life. This will promote optimal development of your own true self. One integral part of reaching a balanced state is the practice of meditation. Following good meditation techniques will help with positive development. The practice of meditation requires achieving a state of emptiness. This aspect of emptiness can be illustrated with the tea ceremony. The individual who studies daily the tea ceremony must practice with an attitude like the emptying of the cup. The emptying of the cup represents the emptying of the mind. This philosophy teaches us to discipline ourselves and spread good energy to others. The
person performing the tea ceremony is required to practice the technique of
disappearing from head to toe. In
other words, they must release their worldly attachments to their human
existence. For the tea ceremony,
the cup represents the body. Everything,
including the cup and body serve a purpose.
For example, the cup’s purpose is to hold the liquid.
Therefore, the liquid allows the cup to be complete.
The same is true of the tea ceremony.
There is a giver and a receiver. Between
the two, there is an unspoken exchange of energy in general and of specific
thoughts. As the liquid is being
poured, the cup fills from the bottom to the top.
It appears by observing the full cup that the purpose has been fulfilled;
however, the next step is to empty the cup.
This is achieved by sipping the tea from the top to the bottom.
Just as the cup must be emptied to receive more liquid, we must be empty
to receive energy from the Master. In order to maintain good energy, we must perform the tea ceremony with strict discipline and a good attitude. Remember the teachings of the tea ceremony. Empty yourself of the negative thoughts and energy, and refill yourself with the positive. This is the key to a healthier, richer life.
